Drawing/Illustration

Beginner/Intermediate

Learn fundamentals through traditional teaching techniques including composition, perspective, shading, sketching and the development and celebration of personal style. Learn how to train your artist’s eye and the ability to break down anything into shape, value and line. Dry and wet mediums will be demonstrated.

Clay: Form and Functional Ceramics

Beginner/Intermediate

Slab Rollers Rule! A hands-on class teaching soft slab construction. Getting tips and knowledge of surface design using underglazes, stencils, and screen printing on greenware and wet clay.

Clay: Wheel Throwing and Handbuilding

Beginner and beyond

Plates, mugs, lidded boxes, platters, vases, sculptures. Techniques in surface design, sgraffito, printmaking on wet clay and the use of unusual tools to create art in all forms. You can also use this class to continue any workshop classes or as a time to work on your own projects in our ceramics studio. We do have the ability to fire large pieces.

Printmaking: Linocut + Monotype + Screen Printing

Beginner and beyond

Students will learn a variety of printmaking techniques including Monotype printing, Linocut relief printing and screen printing. Students have the chance to pick and choose what technique they would like to create in.

Monotype Printing: One of the more ethereal printmaking techniques, students will create one of a kind prints. A variety of mediums will be applied such as encaustics (melted beeswax), watercolor, and ink.

Linocut Relief Printing: Using carving tools, students will learn to create detailed block prints. We will focus on creating reduction prints (using the same block for multiple layers) and multiple-block prints (using more than one block for layers on one print).

Cyanotype Prints:  Demonstrating how to print using a traditional photographic process.  Chemicals are applied to a surface (paper, wood, or even cotton) and left to dry.  Once dry the surface becomes photosensitive and students will use digital negatives (that you learn to create) and the sun to create unique prints in a beautiful blue tone.

Mosaics and Surfaces

Beginner and beyond

A perfect introduction to mosaics using ceramic tile, found objects and small ceramic sculpture. This is a great building block for those that love to explore and experiment, have future ideas in mind for school fundraising projects, or further mosaic projects. This is a class that covers design, terminology, types of materials (historical and newer approaches), substrates, fixatives, tools, grouting, sealing and finishing. At time of registration, you will decide on which project you would like to work on: Wall art (creating a picture with broken pottery on a 12” x 12” substrate), frame, mirror (12” x 12”) stepping stones (square), name plaque, address plaque.

Sewing

Encaustics: Painting with Hot Beeswax

No experience necessary. This medium and this method allows you to just play and not worry about your results, although you will love the results!

Abstracts are not your only option when painting with wax. Students will also learn how to paint more realistic pieces and how to incorporate oil paint and oil sticks into their painting.

Directions will also be given on how to make your own encaustic material and what supplies you may need if you want to continue creating at home.
